Brass Repair Technician
Our newest brass repair tech, Matt Johnson, comes to us from BandSource and brings with him over 20 years of experience as a brass technician. After playing trumpet at U of I, he took a repair apprenticeship and over the years became one of the most sought-after brass technicians in the midwest. He spends his bench time working for students and pros alike, and we feel very lucky to have him working with us at Fix This! & Horn Stash.
Woodwind Repair Technician
Bonnie Radecki Reidel earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Flute Performance from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA. After college she attended Renton Technical College near Seattle, WA and received a certification as a Musical Instrument Repair Technician. Bonnie then moved to the Chicago area to accept a position as a full-time woodwind repair technician.
Since moving to the Chicago suburbs, she has worked with various music stores such as The Brass Bow, Karnes Music, and Music Starts Here. As an active member of the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT), she participates in local and national repair workshops to continually improve her repair skills and learn about new trade developments, and is a Straubinger Certified Technician. In addition to repairing and raising a family, Bonnie still enjoys playing the flute with local ensembles.
Jim Bachelder holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Business from Elmhurst College. While in college, he played euphonium in the both the Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band under the baton of Judy Grimes and Ross Kellan, respectively. He was also an inaugural member of the Elmhurst College Tuba Quartet, under the direction of Cynthia Stark. Jim has done work in the recording industry with Victory Records and Chicago Recording Company and continues to record on a freelance level for local artists. Born and raised locally in Palatine, Jim was a music student at Fremd High School and is thrilled to be working in his hometown serving local schools and musicians that helped inspire him to pursue music as a career, as well as a lifestyle.
