From Bach:
"The Bach 42BO is the most popular selling Bach Stradivarius symphonic trombone. It features an 8-1/2" one-piece hand-hammered yellow brass bell that has defined the symphonic sound for generations. The .547" large bore combined with the open wrap F attachment offers outstanding clarity and projection with less resistance. The chrome plated nickel silver inner handslide tubes provide the ideal surface for smooth and quick handslide action. The clear lacquer finish adds a subtle warmth to the sound overall. The Bach Stradivarius 42BO professional trombone is ideal for both symphonic and solo performance."
It's not often that we see silver plated trombones, and it's even less often that we see them come in with F-attachments. Which means that this one will not last long here! Adding silver plate to a large-bore trombone will give it a lot of extra presence, and will give some extra brightness to the player's sound.
This Bach 42BOS is showing signs of use, and we always take that as a good sign. It means a player liked this horn enough to leave their mark on it, and also means that it can enchant a new player. A brace between the main tuning slide and the F tuning slide was missing, so our professional brass tech needed to replace it. At the time, braces were only available in raw brass, so this brace really pops against the silver plate on the instrument. Some surface scratches that don't go through the plating can be found on the bell's throat and flare, and some tiny dents (inaccessible without major surgery) can still be spotted in the F tuning slide. Surface scratches become a little more apparent on the instrument's handslide, especially on the cork barrels. Some plating wear has begun to form on both of the inner slide stocking, but cannot be felt when using the slide, and will not progress with the proper care and maintenance. Pictures of specific parts of this instrument are available upon request.
Functionally, this Bach 42BOS is in great shape. Our professional brass technician spent a lot of time with this horn to prep it for sale. First they needed to solder on the replacement brace between the tuning slides, and then it got the works in our ultrasonic tank. Once it was cleaned, polished, and re-lubed, it was play-tested and brought to the retail department to list for sale. It's a great trombone, and it's ready for you to take it home!
