The C.G. Conn 8D offers the flexibility and projection a horn player needs to succeed at all levels. Its traditional large throat bell and lighter weight all nickel construction than most horns makes this a perfect match for any player.
The C.G. Conn 8D has been one of the world's most popular horns for decades. It maintains a design that makes the horn very responsive and free-blowing with excellent tonal balance. Its traditional large throat bell and all nickel construction give a beautiful, dark sound with rich depth. The clear lacquer finish provides a subtle warmth to the overall sound. Well suited for players of all ages and abilities.
Simply put, this is a legendary horn from a legendary era. Elkhart Conn French horns are highly sought after and we are very proud to have one on our shelves. The Conn 8D French horn is one of the best-selling French horns of all time, and very little has changed about the 8D's production over the years. So it would make finding one from the "golden era" of Conn a very lucky catch. In other words: Don't wait! Get over here and see it for yourself!
This horn is in excellent shape for its age, and it still plays like a dream. It arrived at our shop in good playing condition, and required no work from our professional brass technician before going up for sale. Our tech did inspect the instrument thoroughly and found it to be in great playing condition, so we are selling it as-is. It was expertly cared for for years, and there are signs of work throughout the instrument (normal for a 60-70 year old instrument.) Some lacquer wear can be spotted on all of the usual spots (inner bell, tuning slides, bell throat and flare), and some obvious dent scars can be found on the bell throat and flare. All this means that the horn was regularly serviced and cleaned, and it would be an excellent candidate for anyone who wants a vintage French horn that is a SERIOUS player. The first branch still has a dent in it, and there are very minor dents in the left hand guard, the 1st and 3rd valve slide, and the 4th level slide crook, none of which affect the way the horn plays. Its original case is included and it's showing its age, but we are more than happy to give you a deal on a replacement case if you feel like it's needed!
