From Holton's catalog from the 70's:
"In terms of sound, a superb and noble instrument – with a fullness, richness and depth of sonority far exceeding that of any hitherto known bass trombone. Though its primary use is in the middle range and on down to pedal Bb and beyond, the Model TR-180 features an upper range of great fullness and beauty, including the normally difficult notes around high Bb. In contrast to most bass trombones, the model 185’s dimensions are indeed heroic – through the facility it is a match for many a tenor. Bore is a full .562 inch, with a bell diameter of 9.5 inches! Specifications include nickel silver, Micro-Taper leader pipe, Brass and gleaning nickel silver trim."
Our professional brass technician gave this bass trombone an ultrasonic cleaning and smoothed out a few minor dents from the outer slide. This horn is a great player, and would be a great fit for anyone trying bass trombone for the first time, or for the seasoned pro looking to get back into playing. Signs of use can be found throughout the instrument in the form of mild scratching and lacquer wear. This cosmetic wear tells us that this horn was loved, cared for, and played a lot, which are all good things. The horn is still a great player, and has a lot of life left in it. A hard case is included, but it is not original and we recommend seeking out a replacement case that fits this horn a little better.
