What Olds said in 1957:
"Unexcelled musical performance is guaranteed with the Super Trombone with Olds Super 'Tone Control Band' around the bell. This popular instrument features balance and flexibility, distinctive tone and perfect response.
Hand drawn nickel alloy is used for the entire instrument, with the exception of the bell which is of pure bell bronze with the nickel alloy 'Tone Control Band.' Olds fluted slide action and patented one-piece hand-grips offer greater playing comfort."
This trombone can PLAY! Olds trombones have always been popular, and their Super trombone seems to be a top favorite of the models they offered over the years. This one was made in Los Angeles, which many players seem to regard as the best factory in Olds history, and it's in great shape for how old it is. There's a little plating wear near the bottom stocking, but it cannot be felt while playing this horn. Some light surface scratches can be found on the outer hand slide, and there are a few nicks in the lacquer on the bell throat and stem. The outer bell rim edge also has experienced 3-4 inches of lacquer wear as well.
Our professional brass technician cleaned this horn inside and out in our ultrasonic tank and worked out a small dent in the bell section near where the stem begins. Some slight waviness remains due to the location of the dent, but playability and intonation is not impacted in any way.
