From the Reynolds 1958 catalog:
"The Contempora Trombone embodies every desirable feature fine trombonists require [and] produces a superior tenor trombone tone. Slides are nickel silver, chrome-plated, drawn with one-piece stockings. Designed for beauty and rugged durability with nickel silver trimmings and Bronz-o-lyte bell. Finest metals, proper bracing and meticulous workmanship assure years of performance pleasure without costly maintenance."
This horn was almost a full restoration done by our professional brass tech. Our best guess is this horn was an at-home project for its previous owner, and they made some unfortunate decision when working on this horn. We probably should have done some before and after pictures because this trombone looks like a completely different horn compared to how it looked when it arrived here in our shop. The bright nickel silver that you see on the hand slide braces and tuning slide were lacquered over with gold lacquer for whatever reason, so our tech stripped and buffed those sections until its true, bright nickel silver started to really shine. They also gave the horn a thorough ultrasonic cleaning, polished everything up, and removed some dents from the bell. The hand slide also needed aligning, so our tech took care of that as well.
The Reynolds Contempora model trombones are a beloved vintage line, and we are proud to have one in our inventory until we can find a home for it. It's in great playing condition, and it's right here waiting for you! Come and get it before someone beats you to it!
