K-Modified trumpets and cornets have maintained their popularity over the years. They offer a lot of flexibility for players, and they were manufactured in several different configurations that were made available without making a custom order. This particular K-Modified cornet is their "LB" large bore model, giving it a huge amount of room for section and lead players that need it. The large bore combined with the updated "K-Modified" wrap (a wider wrap was introduced with this update, making this still a long model cornet, but giving a little more height to the outer wrap, overall) makes this a powerhouse cornet. It can handle just about as much air as you can afford to put through it, making this great for playing any musical setting where volume is a priority, and would shine best as a jazz horn. It's got a beautiful dark sound, and excellent intonation.
Cosmetically, this horn is in great shape. It's possible this instrument was re-lacquered at some point over the course of the its life, as some streaking in the lacquer can be seen in the bell throat and flare. However, it has the classic golden-brown aged look that vintage Selmer brass instruments usually have, making it hard to tell exactly when this instrument would have been re-finished, or if it has been at all. The engravings on the bell, valves, and receiver are all nice and crisp, which could imply that this is the original finish. Some acid bleed can be found on the 1st valve casing surrounding the 1st valve slide knuckle. The only actual wear on the finish that we could find is on the outer rim of the bell, and this wear is very subtle. Only a quick re-lube and play-test was required for this cornet before listing it for sale. No cleaning, dentwork, or soldering was required, so this horn is ready to go!
