This is definitely one of the most unique and interesting horns we've ever had here! It's truly hard to say whether or not we've ever seen this combination of intonation aids: nickel tone ring (NOT a wreath), expanding (not compressing) valve springs, heavyweight under-slung 3rd valve slide ring, heavyweight tilted 1st valve slide saddle, and slanted heavyweight braces. Furthermore, there are pearl inlays in the tuning slide pull knobs, and a trombone-style water key on the 3rd slide. And on top of all that, it's in absolutely BEAUTFUL condition. Some mild lacquer wear can be found on the valve section, but most of the finish is very much still intact. Some even more mild wear will be noticed on the underside of the bell, on a very small section of the tone ring. But these blemishes do not affect the way the horn plays at all.
This horn will give you a beautiful centered, warm tone that gives just a little bit of sizzle when you push it hard enough. For present-day application, this would likely be best suited for a soloist in a jazz or rock band, and would be suitable for an ensemble setting with the right mouthpiece. The tone ring on this horn really affects its sound. If it were missing, it would probably be too bright. The addition of that heavy nickel ring warms up the sound just enough and give it the quality of sound that any soloist would be happy with.
We're selling this beautiful trumpet as-is. Our professional brass technician gave it a thorough inspection and deemed it ready for sale, so it's ready to go! All the slides and valves move freely and easily, and the horn is clean as can be. A vintage hard case is included.
