For those unfamiliar with Bach's #25 bell taper, it is rated as one of the brighter bell tapers that Bach makes. The added brightness with the large bore makes this instrument best suited for a lead trumpet application. This instrument comes from a period of time when Bach was moving from their factory in Mt. Vernon, NY, to their current factory in Elkhart, IN. Horns from this time period typically come with a "Corporation" stamp under the Vincent Bach signature engraving on the bell, and is included on this trumpet as well. This particular Bach 25 has a lot of character in its sound. There's quite a bit of sizzle in the highest register, and its intonation is even in all dynamic levels and registers.
This Bach Strad 25 Bb trumpet is showing its age in a few ways, but it's an absolutely excellent player. Some plating wear can be found on the 1st valve casing, on the bell ferrule, the end of the bell leading into the ferrule, 2nd valve slide crook, pinky hook, and one spot on the bell throat's left side near the flare. Some pitting (weakness in the plating) is evident on the 3rd valve slide and crook, mouthpiece receiver, and leadpipe, though no red rot is evident. Evidence of soldering can be found on all bell braces, and the front bell brace looks to have been damaged previously but was repaired before arriving here.
Work was required when this trumpet arrived. Our professional brass technician gave it our usual ultrasonic cleaning, took some dents out of the bell crook and 2nd slide crook, and also needed to completely rebuild the 3rd valve slide. After all of that work, it completely blew our techs away during its play-test. Despite showing signs of use and repair, this may be one of the nicest playing Bach Strads we've ever had here.
