Originally known as the “Destino” the Franz Straub GD460 Bb trumpet was designed for Doc Severinsen by German trumpet maker Franz Straub. It features the famous Bauerfiend valve block (stainless steel option, now owned by Adams Brass), which is known for being one of the most consistent and reliable European-made valve blocks available. The “Destino” model evolved and changed hands, so the GD460 was born as a faithful recreation of Straub’s original designs.
This horn comes in a gorgeous gold plate that looks as pristine as the day it was made. Each tuning slide features an additional guard installed on each crook, both to reinforce the slides, and also to add just a little extra mass to assist in projection. The gold plate will help give this horn a warm response in all registers, and the bell taper will offer a nice sizzle when pushed to fortissimo in the upper register, making this a great horn for both solo and ensemble playing.
Minimal work was required to prep this instrument for sale. It arrived clean and in great condition, so our professional brass technician refreshed the lubricants on the slides and valves, and spent a long time play-testing the horn to ensure no other attention was needed. This is a beautiful trumpet, and these horns are incredibly rare here in the United States, so don’t delay! Come out to Horn Stash today to check out this fantastic Straub GD40 Bb Trumpet in gold plate!
