The Holton TR-158 was designed by Holton as their response to Conn's famous 88H tenor trombones. That being said, this trombone is far from a Conn 88H copy. While it's similar in materials and measurements, these horns response quite a bit differently. The TR-158 offers a brighter response than most red brass bells due to its taper and the tight wrap leading into the bell section. The wrap also offers more resistance than its competitors, which many players find preferable as it helps them control their intonation and dynamics a little better. This trombone would be best suited in a wind ensemble or chamber group, and is a perfect option for anyone getting back into playing trombone after some time away, or also for a student looking for an affordable trombone to graduate to after growing out of their student-level instrument.

Our professional brass technician cleaned this trombone inside and out in our ultrasonic tank, and also smoothed out some dents in the bell section, as well as the outer hand slide. There's a spot of plating wear on the lower inner slide stocking, and there's also lacquer wear throughout the instrument that doesn't impact the instrument's playability in any way. By our estimation, about 50% of the lacquer is still intact. It's a great player, and it's ready to go! Come to Horn Stash today to check it out!
