The Buescher 156 Aristocrat "Big B" has a cult following in the saxophone community and are excellent vintage saxophones! This horn was made in 1948 in Elkhart, Indiana and the "Big B" model was billed as the all purpose saxophone compared to the "jazzer" 400 line. Saxophonists gave this Buescher the nickname of "Big B", due to the larger bell size and this saxophone has a big sound! Big tone and great intonation! This saxophone has a great build and feels great under the hands. Jazz legend, Sonny Rollins played on the Aristocrat for quite some time, he enjoyed the big sound he could get from this horn.
This is a vintage horn and these Buescher are notorious for having lacquer wear. Before arriving here, this saxophone looks to have been re-lacquered but is experiencing lacquer wear in multiple places on the body. Also, while working on this horn, our professional saxophone repair technician noticed that the neck receiver (the portion of the saxophone that the neck goes into) was not original to this saxophone. Tightening the neck screw on this horn is cumbersome as it is right next to the lyre holder. Overall, the technician only had to oil and adjust the keys to get it into playing condition!
The Aristocrat has a warm, rich sound and is a fun saxophone to play. Come check out this awesome vintage horn!
