From Conn's 1957 catalog:
Here's the "cornet of tomorrow"... the world's first cornet that looks like a trumpet! And, it has the most consistently good scale of any cornet ever made. Features scientific CALI-BORE (tone chamber calibration); non-corroding, acoustically correct mouthpipe with MICRO-FINISH on the inside; seamless ELECTRO-D bell; lightning fast, quiet top spring, pin suspension, clickless crysteel valves with precision-lapped slides for instant, accurate adjustment while playing and Nylon piston guide which reduces valve noise to a minimum at the same time adding longer life as compared to former metal guide. Trigger mechanism on first valve, easily operated because of the precision-lapped slides, gives player added flexibility in both high and low ranges. Highly polished nickel plated finish with brass trim, protected by longer lasting, acid resistant LUSTRE-CONN finish.
This instrument is a fantastic option for any level of player. It is a great beginner option and has the versatility that professionals look for. It can play with the power and brilliancy of a trumpet, but is also capable of producing the warmth and mellow tone of a cornet. The intonation is excellent throughout all registers of the instrument and the small bore allows easy access into the upper register.
When we received this instrument, it needed some love and care. Our professional brass technician ultrasonically cleaned the instrument and performed some dentwork on the bell stem. The brass slides had the lacquer stripped and then were buffed and relacquered to restore the cosmetic condition of the instrument. It was then given a final playtest and was found to be in excellent playing condition.
Cosmetically this instrument looks great for a 70+ year old instrument. There is standard wear on the finish around the valve casing and bell and a few minor dents and scratches near the bell and leadpipe. Despite its age, this instrument plays great and is ready to find a new home.
