Used Courtois Balanced Model Bb Trumpet - 51XX

Vintage Courtois trumpets are fairly rare here in our store, and this may be the first Courtois Balance Model Trumpet we've ever seen here! These trumpets are great players, and this particular Balanced Model comes from a unique generation. The vast majority of parts on this instrument would have been manufactured before WWII, but this trumpet wasn't assembled or sold until after the war in the early 50's. 

The valve block on this trumpet is slightly further forward than the average trumpet's valves, and their location right in the middle of the trumpet is what earned this instrument the title of "Balanced Model". Some players prefer the feeling and intonation of a balanced model trumpet, and some have also noted that the weight distribution on balanced instruments feel a little more natural to them. The only way to know for sure is to stop by and try it out! 

This horn is in great cosmetic condition. We believe that this trumpet still has its original plating, but we cannot guarantee it. The bell engraving still seems nice and crisp, and not buffed over like we see in many relacquer situations. There's also some acid bleed happening on the bell near the front brace and also around the bell rim. It does look like there was an attempt at relacquering the bell rim at one point, possibly to mitigate the acid bleed, but we cannot confirm this. There's also a dent scar near the spot of relacquering, so that could have something to do with it as well. Furthermore, there are some signs of pitting in the leadpipe, and this leadpipe may need replacing at some point in it's future, but everything is sealing and in good working order as of the date of listing. 

A simple cleaning and re-lube was all that was required of this trumpet when it was brought to us to sell. It includes a vintage Olds case from the 70's or 80's, and does not include a mouthpiece. A vintage mouthpiece is always recommended for vintage horns. This horn would be ideal in a jazz or solo setting, or would be perfect for the collector of vintage trumpets. But don't wait!
