From the manufacturer:

Holton horns offer an alternative in design that creates a great experience for the young or advanced players. The Farkas wrap offers independent tuning for convenience allowing the player to tune the Bb side of the horn separately from the F side.

The H179 has especially good center and projection. This free-blowing horn features a rich, dark sound designed especially for the “big horn” artist; the tapered tubing and throat of the bell are larger for a bigger, darker tone. The bell flare produces a mellow, velvety tone plus a little overtone of a ringing quality. Hard nickel silver responds quickly and sounds brighter up close. The most popular Farkas model.

This horn is in fine cosmetic condition. There are signs of lacquer-wear throughout the body and evidence of previous dentwork on the bell flare. Due to corrosive polishing materials used in a previous repair done before seeing our shop, some of the nickel has been worn to show the raw brass, but this is in very small quantities. For a used instrument, however, it is in good shape. Beyond cosmetics, the horn plays well, allowing for a dark, velvety tone due to the larger throat. Holton H179s are a classic step-up horn for the musician getting serious about their playing.
