What Kanstul said about this trumpet:
"This is the American rendition of the classic French Besson trumpets. It has tremendous projection and a lively texture to the tone that is both brilliant and warm.
The medium large bore makes it highly efficient, but never 'stuffy'. It is very flexible and agile in its response, allowing for great expressiveness, while maintaining a solid tone core and good intonation."
Zig Kanstul made his mark on the trumpet manufacturing world, and his Series 1000 Chicago model is one of his most beloved designs. Specifically modeled after Besson's vintage French trumpets, which he studied at length while we was working with Elden Benge, this trumpet offers a vibrant, lively response that is best suited in a commercial or jazz setting. It could work well in a lead or a support setting. It can project very easily, but isn't so bright that it can't blend with a section when needed.
Cosmetically, this horn is in great condition. The top and bottom caps are showing some wear, most notably the top and bottom cap on the 1st and 2nd valves. The top caps are showing some plating wear, and the bottom caps looks like they got chewed up some point, however there is no difficulty to remove or reinstall the bottom caps when needed. There's some mild wear on the finger buttons, but that's where the plating wear ends. The bell has a pair of really light surface scratches on the throat, but players will need to look closely to spot them. There's also some pitting forming on the outside of the leadpipe near the mouthpiece receiver, which could be a sign that a leadpipe replacement may be in this trumpet's future. Otherwise, this horn is excellent condition, and so is its overall plating.
