From Fox:
"THE GRANDFATHER OF FOX BASSOONS, THE MODEL II IS A MODERN VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL FOX DESIGN. PATTERNED AFTER THE BASSOONS PLAYED BY HUGO FOX IN THE CHICAGO SYMPHONY, THE MODEL II FEATURES A ROUND, CLEAR, DARK TONE THAT BLENDS WELL WITH OTHER INSTRUMENTS."
We are so excited to be able to have a great, professional-level bassoon in stock! This bassoon was born all the way back in 1958, and our professional woodwind technician put in quite a bit of work to get this old bird back into good playing condition. They re-padded the entire instrument, and the bassoon also needed a tenon graft. After quite a bit of time with this instrument, the repairs were complete and our technician gave it their seal of approval, making it ready for sale. The cost of a new version of this same instrument is over $20,000, so we do not expect an instrument of this caliber to last on our shelves very long.
Cosmetically, this instrument is showing signs of wear, which one might expect with a wooden instrument closing in on 70 years. Some of the original gloss as begun to wear, and in some spots, the wood is beginning to show through the finish. Mild cloudiness is beginning to form on the nickel keys as well. However, this instrument still has a lot of life left in it and sounds excellent. It includes 2 bocals and a brand new Protec case. Come check it out before it's gone!
