New York Bach trumpets are becoming more and more rare with every passing year. They’re highly sought after, and people who own them tend to keep them for the rest of their lives. Not only are they life-long horns, these are typically cared for very well since they’re so hard to find, and simply cannot be recreated. The New York Bach Stradivarius that we have here has seen quite a bit of work over the years, and it’s in great shape. The work put in to maintain this horn since the late 40’s when it was made is a testament to the merits of this instrument. Part replacements and replating wouldn’t have been performed on a horn this age unless it would put more life and playability into an excellent horn.

By our estimation, the 1st valve slide stop rod brackets have been replaced with modern parts but were installed in the style of the 1940’s Bach trumpets, with the stop rod pointing back at the 3rd valve. There is also debate on whether 1940’s Bach trumpets used a reversed tuning slide on their 1st valve slides at the time, but this first valve slide looks so good that we do believe it’s original. There a handful of small guards were also installed on this trumpet to protect the places where a player’s hand usually rests. There are 2 on the underside of the bell, 1 on the underside of the leadpipe, and 1 on the main tuning slide knuckle as it enters the 3rd valve casing.

It appears that this horn’s body and pistons both were replated at some point in time. Though we cannot say exactly when, we can say confidently that the work was done very well, and the horn looks beautiful. The water keys, top and bottom caps, and pinky hook are all original to this trumpet. It does not include a mouthpiece or a case, as a player looking for a horn like this surely already has a favorite mouthpiece, and a case they can trust.

Our professional brass technician cleaned this horn in our ultrasonic tank, and polished it to its best possible shine. After a lengthy play-test, it is now on display in our showroom! Come check it out before you miss your shot!
